The December Eric's dad passed away(2005) a dear friend gave us a most wonderful condolence gift. A large vertical glass vase of paper white hyacinth bulbs with a large bow tied around it. Every day it visibly grew until it sprouted blossoms and burst forth in glorious white clusters of flowers right before Christmas. The flowers had amazing staying power in our cool house and then even longer when I place them out on our chilly porch.
They gave me such joy! And so I continue the tradition and buy myself paper white bulbs in early December for our home and others as gifts. (How are yours doing?)
